To increase the life of your HEPA filter, it is highly advisable to install a pre-filter/primary filter to your laminar flow hood.

The purpose of this filter is to remove any hairs, dust and small objects that may pass through your fan and ultimately end up blocking and damaging your HEPA Filter.
